Freedom v Security

Today’s full moon in Sagittarius/Gemini is at 19 degrees. If you have a sensitive point or a planet within about 4 degrees of this number, especially in the mutable signs which include the other two –   Pisces and Virgo – or in air or fire signs, you will feel the energy to some extent. It will all depend on how sensitive you have become to esoteric energy and the degree of control you like to exert in your life. The more sensitive you are, the more you are able to tune in to invisible energy. The wider the orb, that is the greater the number away from 19, the less it is likely to be felt, sensed, or intuited. The more exact, the more likely it is that you will recognize the energy at work in your life.

I will copy below the latest update from Stephanie Austin who is my favourite guru on the subject of transits, especially those involving the moon, like eclipses. I would highly recommend that you subscribe to her bi-monthly updates if you like to be kept informed on these matters.

This full moon will amplify the energy for anyone having an issue with Saturn right now as Saturn is at 25 degrees and moving retrograde – the orb is wide, but becoming more exact as the day(s) moves on. The moon will conjunct Saturn about 12 hours after it is exactly opposite the sun local time, around 14.15 BST. Ask yourself how you are feeling as the day progresses to test your level of sensitivity to these markers.

As an example, I have the moon in my birth chart at 14 degrees Virgo and Venus at 25 Sag and Mercury at 12 Sag. Both in the 5th. As a 4th house sun, the moon highlights my feelings about security; while Venus in Sag. ruled by Jupiter which is in Taurus (mutual reception) highlights my need for freedom and the unrestricted life. Inevitably there is some tension involved here – this tension acts like Esther’s ‘contrast’. Abraham might say this is therefore an opportunity as the tension clarifies these issues. He/they say: ‘if you know what you don’t want, you know what you do want’. On a simple and general level this might be true, but astrology shows that a square aspect, an opposition and a quincunx all complicate this general rule. I do not want too much freedom because I want some security; I do not want too much security because I need some freedom.

Some people, lucky people, find their security in their freedom; some find their freedom in their security. There are many other measures in between these two ends of the spectrum which is why the subject is archetypal. Indeed, as the UK recovers from the general election we see the whole idea playing out in detail. Saturn rules our social security (what an oxymoron that is). Saturn is the ruler of the 10th house and Capricorn. Theresa May, while her chart is X rated (unknown birth time) has Jupiter at 17 and Mars at 13 in Virgo-Pisces. This tense aspect is amplified by the full moon today as she tries to retain her balance as a Libra (Libra suns are often in a state of ‘un-balance’ as their job is to always find the point of balance) after a disappointing election for the Conservatives. Afterwards she spoke to us of a perceived need for ‘certainty’.

For me, to focus on politics adds to a general sense of insecurity or just boredom, so I do not bother with it. I take what comes. For someone close to me, it is a subject which is very important to him: he has the sun conjunct Saturn in Cancer in the first house with the moon on the MC. The subject makes him feel expanded in his sense of self-worthiness.

Perhaps ‘worthiness’ is an important word when we are thinking about freedom and security. For example, raise your hands all those blogsters who feel they are loved, or who feel loveable. Now ask yourself if you feel worthy of that love. Interesting, isn’t it? Who gives us our guideline for worthiness? Is it society? Our God? Our self? Something else?

I watched a movie yesterday called, Hidden Figures. I liked it and became absorbed by the characters. It told the true story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.  It reminded me of a question I once put to Jean the Magnificent about her experience of race issues when she was growing up in the 1930’s. I was able to find a little piece of biographical history which was recorded in 1989.

What has this to do with freedom and security? I am currently staying at a hotel because I did not want to be at home. I have a poor relationship with home at present. I like the hotel. It has a huge tree out of my window in a quiet garden. I needed this peace very much. Out of the peace was born a healing; part of the healing was the loss of self consciousness that comes during absorption in something else. Out of the something else including the movie which had a great deal to do with self-worthiness, and because the ingredients were conducive, Jean spoke to me from her non-physical world with several pertinent messages. It was exceptionally helpful to this place, this time, this full moon…… this person.

The film finished with one character asking another: ‘Do you think we will get to the moon some day?’ The answer came, ‘We already have’. Mathematical theory projects out of the known (secure) world into that which is beyond.

Dear Friends,

The next full moon, which peaks on Friday June 9 at 6:10 AM PDT, highlights the polarity of Gemini and Sagittarius, and the difference between information and interpretation, “alternative facts” and the truth. All full moons bring light to the dark, to what has been in the unconscious; this one reminds us that Planet Earth is a one room schoolhouse, where souls of all ages learn and teach other. Gemini deals with perception and intelligence; Sagittarius with concepts and philosophy. The Sun in Gemini illuminates how well we are communicating and connecting the dots; the Moon in Sagittarius highlights where we need to question our assumptions, and how what we see depends on where we stand.

Our nervous system receives millions of bits of sensory information every second, but only a very tiny fraction of that reaches our conscious mind; the rest is filtered out by our brain. This sensory gating is necessary for us to function, but can become an overactive spam filter, blocking out vital information and distorting our perception of ourselves, others, and reality. Our filters are shaped by many factors — our childhood, education, culture, religion, gender, all our experiences — and are primarily unconscious, until we are exposed to other ways of seeing and being. Travel, nature, education, and anything that expands our awareness beyond our everyday routine helps us become aware of our filters, patterns, and ruts. If we can’t see it, we can’t change it. With consciousness comes choice. As long as something is running below the radar, it’s running us. When we are unable to move forward, we have to find out what’s holding us back; invariably it is a misperception.

Less than an hour after the peak of this full moon, Jupiter, the planet most associated with Sagittarius and the expansion of consciousness, ends its yearly retrograde period, which began on February 5 at 23º Libra. Whenever a planet turns retrograde or direct, it appears to hover in one area of the zodiac for several weeks, intensifying its archetypal energy. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system; as the king of the gods in Roman mythology, his many mythic escapades symbolize how we achieve wisdom and understanding through having a wide variety of encounters and adventures. While retrograde in Libra, Jupiter urged us to examine our beliefs about partnership, redefine our expectations, and heal old wounds from prior relationships. Jupiter turning direct signals that we are ready to act on what we have learned since February 5, and that the more we’ve healed and released old beliefs, the bigger the step we can take now.

Saturn at 25º Sagittarius adds its sobering reality check to this full moon, showing us where we need to clarify our standards and responsibilities. Saturn’s domain is the world of matter, the physical realities of time and space that impel us to honor limits and boundaries, commitments and consequences.Carol Steinel once defined responsibility in a way that was life-changing for me: “We are only responsibility for three things: what we think, what we say, and what we do.” Being fully accountable for all our thoughts, words, and actions also means that we are not responsible for what other people think, say, or do. It’s a spiritual definition, and a deeply empowering one. June 15 the Sun exactly opposes Saturn, calling us to focus on what really matters, and be more realistic in terms of our time, energy, and resources. What are your priorities? Where do you need to more honest with yourself and others? Pluto at 19º Capricorn closely quincunxes the Sun, reminding us that responsibility is inseparable from power; when we abdicate our responsibility, we give up our power. Where do you need to take charge? Where do you need to draw the line?

This full moon also forms a mutable T-Square with Saturn, Chiron, and Neptune. All together, this calls us to trust our inner authority and see things holistically; it urges us to keep both our mind and heart open, focus on what is most meaningful, and let our religion be kindness (Dalai Lama). Virgo is the ‘empty leg’ of this T-Square, indicating the importance of discernment — to identify what is essential, relevant, or helpful, and leave the rest. If you’re feeling scattered, ground yourself with a simple meditation that you can do any time: take a deep breath in, pause for a second, exhale fully, pause for a second. If you are dealing with a lot of stress, try a four-fold breathing technique that the Marines are taught to use in combat: breathe in for four counts, pause for four, breathe out four counts, pause for four.

June 16 Neptune takes its annual turn retrograde, appearing to move backwards until November 22. Neptune presides over the realm of spirit, the metaphysical realities of intuition and imagination, compassion and unity consciousness, which prevail beyond the reach of our five senses and scientific instrumentation. While retrograde, Neptune brings our attention to what’s holding us back from living in a state of inner peace and joyful creativity. When we let go of the need to judge, we are able to see things as they really are. Neptune retrograde helps us see where we have mistaken victimhood for surrender, penance for forgiveness, martyrdom for love. What addictions or distractions are holding you back? What do you need to accept and forgive?

The first solstice of the year occurs on June 20 at 9:24 PM PDT. Solstices function as energetic gateways, allowing a greater influx of stellar radiation, as the axial tilt of the Earth comes to a gravitational pause for three days. The word solstice comes from the Latin to stand still; for three days, the Sun appears at the same declination, before beginning to either climb higher or lower in the sky. In the northern hemisphere, daylight has reached its maximum; the yin, receptive force now grows stronger, shifting growth inwards, towards the development of our emotional body, creativity, and wholeness, while in the southern hemisphere, the yang force increases, emphasizing more outer growth. Because the summer and winter solstices are now also closely aligned with the Galactic Cross — the intersection of the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy with the ecliptic (the path of the Earth around the Sun) — each solstice (and equinox) provides a wider portal for the celestial downloads, which are accelerating humanity’s evolution. This an extra potent time to set intentions and participate in ceremony, ritual, and prayer.

This full moon, and the next two weeks, sheds light on new truths, as well as old fallacies, advising us to:

Question your thoughts.
Question your stories.
Question your assumptions.
Question your opinions.
Question your conclusions.
Question them all into utter emptiness, stillness and joy.
The keys to freedom are in your hands.
Use them.
