What Is Astrology?

Simplifying a Complex Subject

There are 12 ‘houses’ or sections in the astrological wheel. This is because the Earth turns once on its axis every 24 hours. If you hold up a bicycle wheel to the sky and imagine all the stars and planets, the sun and moon inside the spokes of the wheel, then turn the wheel slowly anti-clockwise you can imagine all the objects appearing to turn inside the wheel and see how the sky looks from our geometrical perspective. Depending on the position in time and place will depend how long or short each house appears in the wheel, or chart.

The birth-chart is the wheel seen at the time of birth, specifically at the time of the first breath, when we first engage with the energies of planet Earth. This is the ‘As Above’ part. Later it will explain the ‘So Below’ part. This is the Law of Correspondences.

Just as each birth sign, star sign, sun sign has a different quality and meaning, so does each house. But in general each house from 1 to 12 equates with each sign from 1 to 12.

So there are 2 wheels moving at once at different speeds. The spin of the Earth to give us the Houses, and the movement of the planets (and the moon as it orbits the Earth) around the Sun.

And each planet has a different speed of orbit.

I once copied notes from a good source onto a Meetup site so if interested, along with all the other astro-information on the internet you can go here: https://www.meetup.com/West-Sussex-Astrology/pages/20737825/The_Air_and_Water_Signs/

… for a quick basis in astrology.

I would recommend www.astro.com as the one of the most comprehensive sites for learning and understanding astrology.

I intend to talk about some birth charts and it helps if there is some understanding of the language.

Next a little about the birth-chart of Esther Hicks.
